Social media has become a new channel for marketers to reach their consumers. It refers to the online platforms and tools that people use to share opinions, experiences, insights and use various media, including photos, videos and music, with each other. The typical social networks include Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, as well as Youtube and LinkedIn, etc., though some platforms are quite different from the others in terms of user interactions. For example, Twitter and Youtube are less like social platforms for connecting close friends, and more like public platforms for companies to share their news. Social media marketing is the process of generating web traffic and promoting products/services through social networks. Examples include advertising on Facebook and Youtube, and developing official channels/accounts on the social networks.

 

For this topic, please answer the following questions based on your own personal user experience of social media.

 

Sub-Topic 1: Social media usage.

Can you name the social network(s) that you use most frequently? What do you like about these social networks? How active are you on these social networks? How many times a day (or a week) do you visit your account? How do you usually access these social networks, through mobile apps or through computer or both?

Can you name the social networks that you have accounts but do not use often? What are the reasons that you don't use them?

Do you use mobile apps for social media? If yes, how many social media apps do you have? Which social media app(s) do you like the best? Why? Is there any social media app that you do not like? Why?

Have you subscribed or followed any business (or individual blogger) on social networks?

What types of posts/tweets/videos that interest you? How frequently do you reply/share the posts/tweets/videos that you find interesting? How often do you click a company's (or an individual blogger's) link on their social media?  Have you ever purchased anything through their social media link?

What are the social media marketing features that you like? Do you click through the advertisement on social media (such as the Ad embedded in a YouTube video)? If so, how often? If you never did, why not?  What do you think about those advertisements?

Would you worry about privacy issues since social networks take your information such as location? How much of your personal information do you put on your social media profiles? Do you use any approach to protect your private information?
