This week's discussion is titled "Turning Point" and is focused on the year 1968. A "turning point" is defined as the point after which the outcome of the war becomes inevitable.
This is a two part discussion which you may post all in one thread:
First, what do you assess as the turning point in Vietnam? Was it the entire Tet Offensive, a particular battle during Tet, the Battle of Khe Sanh, or something else? What made this event(s) different from similar past events? Why did it become the turning point?
Second, given what you would have known at the time, how do you evaluate LBJ's speech on March 31, 1968? Remember to think about what was happening in Vietnam (was this speech before or after your selected turning point?), what was happening politically, domestically, culturally, etc.
