Students are expected to write a 5-7 page term paper, where they summarize and analyze political events that occur in a Latin American country of their own selection throughout the semester. For the paper, students have to pick a specific country from region, follow political news from those countries throughout the semester, and analyze these news in terms of what we learn in the class. Students have to communicate to the instructor their country selection by February 13, Saturday. The paper is worth 20 percent of the total grade.

The paper is intended to give students an opportunity to
- Get a strong understanding of ongoing events in the country of interest to them
- Work on their critical and analytical thinking skills by applying some general ideas discussed in the class in understanding practical political events
- Work on their writing skills

The paper is graded as follows:
