The Nathan L. Anderson Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. is named after Nathan Losel Anderson, a very talented musician. He excelled as a composer or arranger, pianist, organist, and accompanist. He was also a computer specialist with excellent knowledge and skills, which led him to work in various U.S government agencies where he had gained a high rank in these agencies as his responsibility increased.
Nathan was very industrious in his childhood with entrepreneur skills by requesting an allowance. When his father turned him down, he came back with a price list of things that he needed to do, whereby his father got convinced and gave a contract to vacuum the house. Nathan started studying music in the first grade at Ottley music school with the assistance of his aunt, Neville E. Ottley.
Nathan successfully passed the auditions in the nation guide of piano teachers in high school level at the age of ten. He used to accompany the G.E peter school choir in Washington D.C and performed regularly in OMS recitals. At the age of eleven, Nathan presented a debut recital of seventy-five minutes at Columbia union college, referred to as Washington Adventist University.
Nathan joined Oakwood college, currently a university and a computer science degree. He became a member of the band of Dynamic Praise Choir, whereby he was a key person, and he was the composer and accompanist of the music for the singers. He worked for various agencies in the U.S government, whereby he got the promotion to the lieutenant junior grade after graduation from Oakwood college. He was assigned to work as a computer specialist in Indian health services in Oklahoma City. Nathan had started premed classes before he met his death at the age of 25 years in an accident (Anderson, n.d.).
I am a first-year student pursuing computer science with a great passion for becoming a computer specialist. It has always been my passion to pursue a career in the computing industry since I was a child. My motivation to pursue computer science at a very early age was highly contributed by my father, who worked with computer systems whom he sometimes used to take me to his workplace. I was always fascinated by how these computer systems work, increasing my curiosity to know and learn about computers.
Also, in my high school studies, I undertook my first programming classes, which increased my interest in computing. I enjoyed every bit of learning and could stop thinking about how I will solve daily problems through coding. Whenever I got a chance, I would apply physics and graphical elements through coding several programs such as games. These passion and ambitions made me realize that computer science was the only career for me to pursue, and the only way to achieve it was to work towards achieving it. As I continue pursuing computer science, I found every class interesting and challenging more work hard towards achieving my goals.
In the workplace and homes, computers are the most commonly used tools, and this motivates me a lot since pursuing computer science will enable me to join the software engineering team and help people deal with the daily difficulties they face while using computers since now technology is growing at a very high rate and bringing along a lot of challenges. I believe that doing computer science will help me bring solutions to challenges that accompany dynamic technology.
Having to deal with computers in my daily activities has allowed me to exercise my creativity and hence enable me to get more skills in computers. During my free time, I usually find myself creating programs in python from scratch either through combining the old one or testing new functions, which grants me a great chance in my progression of becoming a programmer, which I believe a significant step in achieving my success and fulfilling my goals in becoming a computer specialist.
Moreover, innovation has always been my drive. I always aspire to achieve it. Therefore, studying computer science will be an excellent opportunity to put across my innovative ideas in coming up with new technologies that will bring long-lasting solutions to ever-occurring problems arising from the use of computers. Computer science will equip me with skills and knowledge that will help me achieve this goal. I want to inspire others through my innovations in the computing industry.
Also, I am focusing on obtaining intense knowledge in computing systems and gain a better understanding of topics in computer science such as operating systems, computer networks, programming, language paradigms, interdependencies, and high-performance computing. By getting familiar with these principles, I will apply them in accomplishing my career goals. I will also gain intellectual skills such as communicating effectively both verbally and in written form, which is essential in the field of computer science, and gaining ethical and social awareness.
My goal in pursuing a career in computer science is to make an outstanding contribution to the computing industry through establishing an innovative venture that will help people pursue their goals in the computing industry. This will positively change many people's lives, and it will be my most outstanding achievement by impacting people's lives positively. I will also like to venture into research that will bring along new dimensions of understanding computer science and computing methods and change the way people perceive computers and their functioning. I am very determined to achieve my career by putting into practice whatever I learn in class to accomplish my goals.
There have been several technological advancements that are taking place in the world and around us in daily events, especially the evolution of antenna phones that were very bulk to emerging of smartphones with intelligent visual assistants such Windows Cortana, Google Now, and apple's Siri. These developments are significant in driving our world into smarter work. This inspires me a lot, and it is my goal to be involved in this development process.
The foundation's primary focus and purpose are to ensure that the minority group in the United States of America is elevated through education empowerment. The minority group, in this case, includes, among others, the African Americans who are not well represented in various sectors of the country, including the education sector. Black Americans are considered minor in every aspect, and the foundation believes that it is only through education empowerment that equality will be embraced in the United States of America.
To have its focus realized, the foundations offer a scholarship to minority students who wish to pursue different courses such as nursing and computer science. I belong among African-Americans whose representation in computer science in the United States is low, and therefore I am of interest to the foundation. Upon completion of my computer science degree, I will add the few numbers of representations of black Americans that we have in the United States of America. I will take part in making critical decisions in the country regarding technological advancement and its use. I believe people will be treated fairly and given equal opportunities in the United States of American regardless of their skin color.
