You are to write a biased paper

You are to write a biased paper. Your goal is to convince the reader your opinion is correct. You must cite sources and use logical/factual arguments, but you do not have to present an unbiased case. Find sources that support your opinions.

The Unix Philosophy has been around since at least 1978. You can read about it here Unix Philosophy.

It can be summed up (by Peter H. Salus) as

1. Write programs that do one thing and do it well.
2. Write programs to work together.
3. Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface.

There are a number of variations on the theme written by different authors, but I think Peter H. Salus gets the point across best. You are free to use other variations that appear on the linked wiki.

Imagine you are writing this report for a Computer Science student with some limited programming background. For example, they have taken a few python or java classes and done some experimenting on their own.

Convince them that the Unix Philosophy leads to more advanced programming techniques. Explain how programs written using this philosophy lead to a different way of approaching programming. (Basically, convince them the material in this class is worthwhile.)

You should use concepts and ideas you learned in CS571 to help support your argument.

Formatting

The paper should be no longer than 8 pages, not including bibliography and title. Follow the MLA format described at the links below. There is no minimum length.
