Module Learning Plan and Progress Management
Managing your learning journey of a module in a semester is like managing a project: You
have your expectations/goals to achieve at the end of the semester, you have limited time
and other resources during the journey, and you may face some uncertainties and constraints along the way to achieve your goals.
A successful project management starts with a good management plan and controlling of the
project progress also plays a critical role in determining the success of the project. In this
part of the assignment, you are required to
1) create a module learning plan for EGM381 in the semester, and
2) monitor and control your learning progress during the semester
Details of requirements for the above two tasks are as follows:
1) Create module learning plan
A learning plan is a description of how you intend to achieve your desired outcomes/goals
in learning development over a period of time. A good learning plan should clearly show
the progresses in your learning journey and it can help to ensure that your learning
activities are orderly and efficient.
Generally, your learning plan should be based on a SMART model (Specific, Measurable,
Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound), which will be able to help you to achieve your
learning goals. A good learning plan is a well-defined document with the following
components:
a) Goals/Outcomes
A set of 'learning goals' that you hope to achieve within a specific period of time. For
example, you may have an overall goal of “A” grade for the module at the end of the
semester. It is often useful to divide overall goals into more manageable sub-goals
that can be achieved within days or weeks, for example, to score 80 marks and above
for weekly quiz.
b) Actions/Activities
Each learning goal (or sub goal) should have a series of concrete steps or actions
that you will take to move towards the goal. Actions refer to actual behaviors and
activities. For example, to revise lecture notes every week is an action.
Actions/activities are usually planned on time basis, for example, activity plan using
Gannt chart.
c) Resources
Each action or activity should be associated with one or more resources and with
evidence. Resources refer to anything that can be used to realize the actions to be
taken towards the learning goal. For example, lecture videos, lecture notes, tutorial
questions are all considered as resources for your learning. As another example,
learning plan templates and references available on internet are resources for you
when you create your own learning plan.

The design of a learning plan can vary from very flexible to very planful and orderly. A
planful and orderly learning plan might be more meaningful and easier to monitor and
control your learning progress, and eventually to ensure your learning goals can be
achieved. In general, there is no perfect or standard format for a learning plan. Your plan
should suit your own nature and needs. To start creating your personal learning plan,
you may search for some references and templates from internet and modify to suit your
needs.
2) Monitoring and controlling of your progress
Monitoring and controlling your progress along time plays an important role to ensure the
planned goals and outcomes can be achieved. In general you need to set a number of
control gates/points to evaluate your performance in achieving short-term goals,
measure and reflect on actions/activities performed, analyze and improve your strategies
in performing the planned activities and actions if your performance is found below
expected. You may set multiple control gates such as topical quizzes, report submission,
mid-semester result, etc. For example, if your topical quiz result is below your planned
goals or your team project is delayed, you will need to look at your planned activities and
measure how these activities are performed. A reflection on the strategies in carrying out
your learning activities will help you to achieve the next learning goals.
In this part of the assignment, you are required to do a self-management of your learning
plan and submit a report (to be submitted together with Section B of this assignment) at the
end of the semester including 1) your original learning plan and 2) monitoring and controlling
report. You may design your own template or adopt any template your find appropriate to
suit your needs.

Assuming you are the project manager of a special project to make two types of widgets for
the year-end event. Your project is scheduled for 10 months from January to October and a
budget with estimates of what it will cost to produce both widgets (shown in the table). The
project is planned to make 200 widgets A and 100 widgets B every month in order to meet
the total target number of widgets for the event
