Like many of the protagonists in Dubliners,Gabriel Conroy realizes something new about his life and grapples with the consequences of that insight: in the case of Conroy, he learns of the love a young man once had for his wife and the tragic end that befell that boy. The scene between Conroy and his wife back at the hotel is the the climax of the story, but I'd like you to examine what actions, moments, characters, and dialogue earlier in the story tell us about Conroy's character and the redundancy and even the boredom in his life.
