Illustrated PowerPoint 2016 | Module 1: SAM Project 1a
Carver School Foundation
CREATING A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION
GETTING STARTED
Open the file IL_PPT16_1a_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
Save the file as IL_PPT16_1a_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
With the file IL_PPT16_1a_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
PROJECT STEPS
1. As a member of a Carver School Foundation committee, you are helping to create a presentation that promotes a cooking competition to raise funds for the school’s arts wing expansion. On Slide 1 (no title), type Iron Vegetarian as the slide title, then type Carver School Foundation as the subtitle.
2. To begin entering the content of the presentation, add a new Slide 2 using the Two Content layout.
3. On the new Slide 2 (no title), enter text describing the cooking competition as follows:
a. Enter Events as the slide title.
b. In the left placeholder, enter a bulleted list with the following items:
Mystery basket
Appetizer challenge
Secret cupcake
c. In the right placeholder, enter a bulleted list with the following items:
Creative presentation
Three-legged chefs
Cleanest chef
4. Continue entering content by adding a new Slide 3 using the Title and Content layout.
5. On the new Slide 3 (no title), enter text identifying the judging categories as follows:
a. Enter Judging Categories as the slide title.
b. In the content placeholder, enter a bulleted list with the following items:
Taste
Variety
Appearance
Creativity
6. With Slide 3 (“Judging Categories”) still displaying, increase the indent of the “Variety” bulleted item by one level to show that “Variety” is part of the “Taste” category.
7. On Slide 4 (“Arts Wing Expansion”), decrease the indent of the “Photography” bulleted item by one level to show that “Photography” is separate from “Sculpture studios”.
8. On Slide 5 (“Volunteers”), replace “Volunteers” with Contacts in the title placeholder.
9. You will send this presentation to a graphic designer who requested that you format the presentation with a plain design. Apply the Office theme to all slides.
In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, then exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
