Expert Solution
A way that public folklore can be used in my community can be a little tricky. I live in a rural suburb. My town is about twenty miles east of the state capital and twenty miles southeast of the a living ghost town where California gold was discovered. I am in an interesting area. My area was Native American land that gave way to settler, prospectors would pass through during the gold rush, a major granite quarry dominated the town, the people in the town were predominantly Japanese, and it was a quiet country town. Now, we are a predominately white town, drug and alcohol problems, bored teens, judgmental and can't accept change, and, honestly, it just went downhill. It's getting crowded with people from the cities that freak out when they see a mountain lion and the people here are not open to people who are not like them the "All American". I know I sound brutal of my town, but it's hard to embrace when there is this type of people invading, which is what it feels like. But this will not deter me.
The public folklore that would be great in my area would have to be a historical and legend podcast. Podcasts would fit the type of media that people in this town would embrace and I also am a podcast junkie. What people don't realize or appreciate in this area is how much history and shaping of California is in this area. My first step in beginning this project would be archival research. This would build the podcast shows. We do have some local historians in town so having their assistance would help.
