In Discussion Forum 2, post your response to the following discussion question. Reply to at least two classmates’ responses by the date indicated in the Course Calendar.

Begin by taking the abbreviated Situational Leadership Questionnaire in Chapter 5 of the Northouse textbook. You will be analyzing the readiness level of the person described in each situation as well as the leadership styles exemplified in each possible response. Think about which leadership style is an appropriate match for each situation.

Next, review French & Raven’s power bases in Chapter 1 of the Northouse text plus the articles by Reiley and Jacobs (2016) and Turner and Schabram (2012). Reflect on the power bases you use in your various professional and personal roles. Please remember that you do not have to be in a leadership position to influence others.

Then answer the following questions. Begin with an Introduction stating the purpose of the submission and your current leadership roles. Then, write three paragraphs, one on each of the questions below.

1. How flexible do you think you are in using different leadership styles to successfully match the needs of your followers in different situations? Give two specific examples of where you used different styles according to Situational Leadership theory. Tell us in each case the development level of the follower and the leadership style you used. Which of French & Raven’s power bases were you using in each of these examples? What could you have done better?

2. How might the situational leadership approach be more effective than trait or behavioral approaches in today’s organizations?
