Quotation Analysis Assignment

Your task is to analyse THREE quotations from your independent reading novel. You must choose one quotation from each third of the book. Each entry should be

approximately 300-500 words

Your analysis you should include the following:

1. Paragraph 1- React. Share your thoughts on the importance of the quote. Connect it to significant elements of fiction (character development, theme, plot, conflicts) (see note “quotation analysis review terms”) What is the author stressing in this quotation? Why does this quote stand out? Nonfiction: connect to the thesis

2. Paragraph 2- Make connections. Make text-to-text connections between your text and other texts (short stories, novels, essays, movies, and other text forms you have encountered) and/or text-to-world connections to the world around you if you can. Do not simply make text to self connections.

3. Paragraph 3- Analyse the text itself. Analyse your quote in terms of the specific aspects of language in the quote (word choice, symbolism, tone, rhetorical devices, methods of development). How are these significant or important to your text overall, or how do they impact your understanding of this specific selection?

Refer to the level 4 exemplar on G.C. for guidance.

An important part of this exercise is choosing the right quotes. If you choose a quote that doesn’t matter, then you won’t have much to write about! Your quotes should be meaty – they should have substance! They should have rhetoric or interesting diction. They should include logos, pathos, ethos and/or rhetoric!
