Guidelines / Instructions

Please feel free to follow the guidelines below to ensure that you successfully complete and submit your blog by the due date:   

  • Consult list of countries in La Francophonie  
  • Choose one city / town or country (see exceptions above)*

  • Conduct research and start writing your rough draft. 
  • Make corrections to the rough draft. 
  • Submit the final draft with the APA References list at the end.

BLOG FORMAT:

  • The blog needs a title, introduction, body, conclusion and APA References list.  

Title 

  • Write a title for your blog. Include the name of the city/ town/country in the title. 

 

 

Introduction   

Provide some as well as one or two interesting facts about the city or town that catch the readers’ attention. Tell the readers where this city or town is located – which country, it’s size, population, languages.   

 

Main topics in the body:  

Write about these three topics in the body of your blog. 

 

    1. What makes this town or city or country special? What can one see or do in this place or nearby? 
    2. What are the most popular traditional dishes or foods?
    3. Is there a famous person or notable figure (musician, artist, author, etc.)? 

 

  • Include hyperlinks in the blog.

Conclusion   

Summarize your ideas. Include at least three questions for readers.

Information from websites comes from current, relevant, authoritative, accurate sources that have as a main purpose, to inform. 

  

CITING AND REFERENCES 

The reader knows where the information came from because sources are identified:  

 Examples:  

Canada is the second largest country in the world, according to an article in the Encyclopedia Britannica.   

  

An article by Andrea Yu in Toronto Life magazine lists the six best outdoor skating venues in Toronto. 

There is a References list of the sources in APA style and in alphabetical order at the end of the blog.

Whenever possible, information is linked to the original source. To do this, you’ll need to click on the hyperlink icon  in the blog and add the websites’ URL. 

 

IMAGES 

There are relevant images used in the blog that bring to life key points. 

 

Creative Commons or Google images that are “Labeled for Reuse” are used. 

 

To find images that are labeled for reuse, go to Google, type in the image you want to search. Click the Images tab. Then click Tools, Usage Rights and select "Labeled for Reuse." 

 

The reader can put the cursor over an image and will know who created the image and the website it originated. For the reader to be able to see the image information, you will need to do the following: 

 

  1. Copy and paste the image you have chosen onto the blog 

 

  1. Right click on the image and select the “Image” option. 

 

  1. Under “Title” write the source information for the image: Image by name of person who created the image if available + from name of website where the image was taken.   

 

 

 

FONTS, COLOURS, AND GRAPHICS 

  • The fonts used enhance readability and add an impact to key ideas. 
  • Only one or two types of fonts are used to keep the blog style consistent. 
  • Colours selected make the blog easy to read and ideas or sections stand out.  
  • Graphics are suited to discussion and enhance the blog’s content. The graphics selected are appropriate for the audience.
