Identifying Data: Donald Davis is a 24-year-old man who lives in Western Sydney. He was in his second year of an Engineering degree at WSU, but has recently quit. Donald presented at Bankstown Medical Center with his girlfriend of six years, Maggie. Maggie wanted Donald to get a mental health care plan and to see a psychologist as she was concerned about some bizarre behaviors and moods she had witnessed from him recently. Donald is asthmatic but is otherwise in good health. He takes medication to manage his asthma. He does not use any other medication or elicit substances.
Presenting Problem: During the appointment, the following was noted.
From the outset, Donald was concerned with wasting time, expressing an eagerness to leave the appointment to pursue his new entrepreneurial ambitions as a fashion designer. Maggie expressed concern that he seems constantly active and on the go all of the time. Donald talked very fast during the interview and it was hard to interrupt him. He said his thoughts were racing. It is noted that he went off on tangents many times during our discussions. For instance, when asked about his plans to become a fashion designer, Donald gave a very long and convoluted response about eating pancakes with Maggie on the weekend and how he is thinking of also opening his own pancake parlor
