Discussion: Chapters 1-5 CIS-110

Several topics were of particular interest to me. First, the productivity applications chapter was much interesting. These are types of software that can be used to document and present datasets. They may include word processors, graphics software, and spreadsheet applications. These applications will help me in the future to perform my daily tasks. For example, I will use the word processor to present and enter data for my class. This will make it more presentable and attractive. I will use power points to present my projects to the audience, making it easy for them to understand the communicated information.

Another topic that stood up to me is Computers and Mobile Devices. Mobile devices are types of computers that are handheld. They are small enough to be portable. Based on the advancement of technology in today’s world, computers and mobile devices are making life easier, as De Bruijne & Wijnant (2013) stated. I will use mobile and computers to communicate with my family members and relatives. Also, mobile devices and computers will make it easier to work from anywhere as long as there is an internet connection. This means that computers and mobile devices usually make a user work without being in a fixed position. Also, computers and mobile devices save time. For instance, it will make me avoid traveling long distances. This is because computers and mobile devices usually bring about telecommunicating.

Finally, back and Restore topic was also of interest to me. These usually refer to the technologies that can be applied to recover data applications on secondary storage devices. First, back and restore features usually enhance security. Hence, I will maintain a backup and recovery solution in my company to protect and save data. It is important to understand that potential threats are usually based on the information one or an organization holds. Also, I will use back and restore to maintain compliance standards in the future. Collecting and preserving critical data is very important when it comes to responding to requests from legal organizations. This is because backing up and restoring information usually connects systems to an outside provider who offers private cloud services.

Awesome post! You mentioned ergonomics. This is a critical topic that also interests me. I believe that in today's world where we work from home, drive to work, and do almost everything while sitting down, including teaching and shopping, ergonomics is vital. Ergonomics is crucial because your musculoskeletal system is not affected when you're doing a job and your body is stressed by a repeated movement, extreme temperature, or an awkward posture. Productivity applications are also critical because it makes our life easier and more effective. Just as you mentioned, you can use specific applications to either teach or file tax returns, among others. These are things that can be very useful in today's world. You also mentioned malware. I think that this is a topic that people should be aware of because, through any form of malware attack, a person or a company can lose vital information. In today's technological world, people need to be educated about malware. Do you think Americans are in a position to safeguard themselves against malware attacks? Why or why not? Again, great post!

Great post! I feel that the Back and Restore program was exciting to me. The fact that you can restore lost photos or music proves how much the program is important. I wish I had known about the program before because I have lost many images in the past, and I could not recover them. In my mind, I thought that once you delete photos, they disappear entirely from your mobile phone. Upon reading about the program, I knew that when you delete photos, they are shrunk down and stored in a cache for a certain period before they disappear entirely. During this time, they can be restored using the Back and Restore program. Did you know about this program before? You have also pointed out the importance of computer and mobile devices as well as entertainment. I could not agree with you more. These types of technologies play a significant role in today's world. We need to embrace them more and improve them in any way we can. Again, excellent post!
