Rate enhancement refers to increasing rate of given reaction by some means like changing physical conditions(temperature, pressure, concentration etc) or by adding some catalyst to reaction. By increasing rate of reaction, the products are formed quickly.

A catalyst decreases the activation energy and hence, less energy is required to cross the energy barrier by the reactants.
In other words, reactant molecules can easily cross the potential barrier and form product and hence the rate of reaction increases.

An enzyme is a form of proteins which can act as a catalyst i.e. it can speed up a given reaction. the forward and backward rates of reaction are effected by an enzymes and it depends upon the concentration of the substrate as well as rate constant.
