There is a place to input the name of the product you are using. If it is not recognized exactly, put in the brand name and find your specific product from the longer list of products made by that manufacturer.

Once you have your product, you will analyze the chemical ingredients in it. Please answer the following questions about your product.

  1. What is the product name and brand name?
  2. Give the overall hazard number that the website gives for this product.
  3. What are the hazards that the chemicals in your product are linked to?
  4. There is a link for an ingredients concern. Click on this—it will give a list of the ingredients in your product. 

a. For any ingredients that have a hazard rating of 3 or higher, click on the name of the ingredient.

i. What purpose does this chemical have in your product? (This will be written directly under the chemical name after you click on the actual chemical.) ii. List some of the health concerns for this chemical.

Section 2:

Having read the two posted articles (“Is there Danger Lurking in Your Lipstick” and “The ‘No More Tears’ Shampoo, Now With No Formaldehyde”), write a 400-500 word essay that discusses the difficulty in identifying hazards in your cosmetics, the difficulty in changing formulations for known products, and an assessment of your overall exposure to endocrine disruptors. Think about where you might come into exposure in your daily life based on the readings and TED talk.
