This assignment is worth 20% of your final grade and addresses Course Objectives 1 and 2. It gives you an opportunity to evaluate theories and models of corporate culture and identify the role corporate culture has in organizational performance. You must complete this assignment individually, without contacting other students, and you may not use a paper or any part of a paper from a previous class or from another person. If you have questions about this assignment, please post them in the Ask The Professor discussion forum so that everyone can benefit from the answers.
Your organization, a 20-year old service organization, seems to be in a mild state of disturbance. Several of your coworkers have been employed at the organization since its inception and these people seem to be set in their ways. After all, why should anything change? They have been doing things the same way for 20 years and they will be retiring in a few years anyway. You are a relatively new manager who has been with the organization for a year. During this time, you have hired three people who seem to be working circles around others. There seems to be dissension among the older workers and profits have slightly declined.
Based on your previous experiences, research you conduct, and the knowledge you have gained from the first three weeks of course readings, write a proposal, in essay format, to the company’s vice president to recommend a plan for change. Be sure to support your recommendation with documentation.
The length of your proposal should be three to four pages (about 750 - 1000 words), excluding cover and reference pages. Please use APA style for all citations, quotations, and references. See Essay Grading Criteria on the next page for additional information.

Essay Grading Criteria
These are the criteria that I will use to grade your essay. I know that some people are very efficient with words whereas others can tend to ramble. I would rather not reward rambling because in organizations you have to be succinct when presenting to executives. Executives tend to have very short attention spans – especially when you are talking about organizational development and change. But if you exceed the page/word limit by a small number, it will not affect your grade.
90 – 100 Exceeds Expectations/Well Done

80 – 89 Strong Meets Expectations
