HUMN 351 PowerPoint Presentation Guidelines

Choose one of your mini-lectures and create an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. It should be long enough to accompany your lecture, providing content at a comfortable pace to hold the interest of your audience. The text of your mini-lecture should be divided up in the Notes section of the PowerPoint with each section related specifically to the slide content. DO NOT REWRITE YOUR MINI-LECTURE. SIMPLY DIVIDE IT UP INTO THE NOTES SECTION OF THE POWERPOINT WITH MATERIAL THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE IMAGES YOU ARE PUTTING INTO THE POWERPOINT.

The PowerPoint will have:

• An opening slide that identifies the series and lecture titles, hypothetical date, and author (you).
• A total of 8-10 slides that show images, clips, or other multimedia elements to illustrate specific points of your lecture.
• Citations for all images on the slide or in a bibliography at the end.
• The text of your mini-lecture accurately divided up in the Notes section.

Mini-Lecture I: Myth in Culture and the Arts

Examine how a myth influenced or inspired something specific in culture or the arts. This could be a work of art, a poem, a religious ritual, a film, a statue, a carving, a religious symbol, a novel, a video game, or a specific TV episode. Compare the original myth with its presentation in the chosen medium.

The paper should be 4-5 pages or about 1,000-1,400 words in length, in size 12 Times New Roman font, double-spaced, and follow MLA or another style guide format.

Mini-Lecture II: Cultural Permutations of Myths

Choose a mythic character (female, male, hermaphrodite, transgender, etc.) found in a mythic tradition from any region of the world. The character can be one that is found our Learning Resources lists, or discovered during your own research.

First, discuss the importance of the character in in terms of interaction with humans based on an important story or social function. Then, find three other versions of that character from other cultures, historical times, or social contexts. With each of these three versions of the original: (1) Give a summary of each of these presentations; and, (2) give a short explanation that compares each of the three versions to the original.

Mini-Lecture III: Myths and Values

Choose a myth and identify the cultural, social, or religious values expressed through it. Analyze how the myth functions to uphold, enforce, or reinforce a set of values within its culture, society, or religion. Finally, comment on whether in your view this influence was to its detriment or benefit of the culture, society, or religion, and explain why you think so.

The paper should be 4-5 pages or about 1,000-1,400 words in length, in size 12 Times New Roman font, double-spaced, and follow MLA or another style guide format.
