Japanese Americans were forced into internment camps after president Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into place Executive Order 9066. This was made shortly after the Japanese attacked the American military base at Pearl Harbor. After this, thousands of Japanese American citizens were forced into these camps. In the famous Supreme Court case, Korematsu vs. US, one citizen sued the US stating that this was a violation of his constitutional rights.

Even though the majority of judges disagreed, the dissenting opinions clearly stated that they felt this violated the rights of Japanese American citizens who were forced to move their home and abandon their property.
