Module 7 DQ 1

Measuring innovation is problematic for many organizations because of the intangible nature of the innovation process, and the length of time it takes to see profits (Skarzynski, & Gibson, 2008). As a membership-based organization, we are always in search of better ways to serve our members by helping them connect with other members and the community to further their goals and objectives, offering informative conferences led by technology experts, and advocating for legislation that supports the technology landscape.

In my organization, the metric we use to measure innovation is increased revenue. When we have brainstorming sessions, if the idea will not produce instant revenue, it isn't considered. This stifles idea generation and creativity. However, I believe that if we measured customer satisfaction, the number of ideas that employees contribute, and how much initiative employees take to look for creative solutions and then experiment, this would better support an innovative culture and we would generate more successful ideas as an organization.

Module 7 DQ 2

For any organization to be successful today, innovation is critical and essential. The ability to assess the progress of the efforts of innovation would be a very important advantage. In an organization, it is important to create innovative solutions and features when bringing on various services and products in the marketplace in order to have a competitive advantage over other competitors. For instance, an innovation measurement system calls for measuring innovation capability in teams that focus on the selection, elicitation of innovation, and also their ways and impact of working. For each section, the indicators of candidate measurement would be provided to be used as the inspiration in the development of the measurement program. It is so important to characterize the various aspects which are difficult and subjective to describe in quantitative terms. This framework has been made, essentially, for the innovation teams within various organizations. Additionally, it may provide more inspiration to the divisions who are aimed for more increased capabilities of innovation.

There are various measures that can be used by an organization to measure innovation. For example, the identification of exploration activities and goals would aid in establishing the motivational inspiration and developing the course of action for the entire innovation process. Providing opportunities and a vision for the goals of innovation would enable any innovator to understand the overall intentions. Another way would be to realize or identify the short-term deliverables. The innovation process’s main objective is to realize the short-term and long-term successes, which would motivate the innovator. If there are any amendments or errors which would need to be done, they could be fixed at a low cost and during an appropriate time. A clear understand of what entails innovation would be essential for the performance and success of the measurement.
