Term Paper requirements: o 6 pages (1400-1600 words) of content (not including cover page, references, etc. 

• Introduction, Body, and Conclusion (outline presented in Week Five) o Information from the textbook and at least 2 other reliable academic sources (? peer-reviewed articles, for example - not internet websites)
• MLA style: spacing, font size, margins, etc. 
• In-text citations and a reference page, properly formatted

 

 

Term Paper topics: Pick one to develop into your term paper

 

Chapter 2: Explain the cultural diversity of indigenous groups. Include 2-3?   specific indigenous groups from different continents and explore the following topics:

• commonalities and differences between the groups
• lifestyle and culture
• relationships to other religions

It would be good to include ways in which indigenous groups are in the news currently.

 

Chapter 3: Compare and contrast Shaktas, Shaivas, and Vaishnavas. Include at?          least one specific deity from each group as well as general information. Include:

• female deities
• types of worship 
• usage and change in different eras of Hindu history

It would be good to include ways in which Hinduism is in the news currently.

 

Chapter 5: Differentiate between Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism. Identify?    what they hold in common and then address these differences:

? primary emphases for the two branches

? scriptures for each

? role of women in each

It would be good to include ways in which Buddhism is in the news currently.

 

Chapter 6: Identify the basic principles of life in harmony with Dao. Include at? least 3 principles and show how those principles affect daily life and why they are increasingly interesting to people in the West. Include:

• terminology (what does Dao mean, for example)
• scripture and stories
• longevity

It would be good to include ways in which Daoism is in the news currently.

 

           

Grading Rubric for Term Paper – 15 points

Summary is worth 3 points of the 15, applied when paper is graded.

 

The topics for the term have been shared in advance. The Research Summary, (an outline, including argument and references) will be submitted in Blackboard in Week 6. The final Term Paper will be submitted in Blackboard in Week 11.

 

Appropriate resources also have been shared in advance. The textbook and at least two other reliable sources should be used in the final paper. Those used should be properly cited and referenced according to MLA style.

The outline should include an introduction, the main body (arguments), and a conclusion. The reference section should include at least three academic sources that you expect to use.

 

A low Safe Assign number is required on the term paper; plagiarized submissions will not be graded.

This is a ranking of journals that deal with topics on religion. The higher the SJR number, the more important the journal. You can copy the title of a journal from this list and then use the Mercy library to search for the journal. Then search for articles about your topic within that journal.

• Title page with your Name, Professor Name, Course name/number, Date, Paper

Title

• 1” margins on all four sides of every page.
• Double spaced. 12-point type font. Arial or Times New Roman.
• Indent first line of each paragraph. Start a new paragraph for every new idea.
• Quotes should be less than 20 words, within quotation marks, and cited with the author’s name and page number in parentheses before the period. 
• Summaries and paraphrases of any recourse material must also be cited. If resource material is used more than once in a paragraph, it needs to be cited each time. 
• Cited material should be a small percentage of your paper – for this paper, not more than 200-300 words.
• Correct punctuation in every sentence, correct spelling of every word, correct grammar throughout the paper.
