Record at least 5 minutes of a male or female radio talk show host in conversation with callers of the opposite sex.  Select 2 ½ continuous minutes of conversation with a same sex caller and a caller of the opposite sex. These conversations must include simultaneous speech, can include the use of Bajan Dialect or Creole, etc. (the use of Bajan Dialect/Creole is optional) however the use of English is compulsory. You are to transcribe the exact words spoken. Please note that you are required to transcribe ONLY 2 ½ MINUTES of the 5 minutes.

*All English transcriptions must be done using English orthography, not IPA.

Submit:

1. A typed transcription, on which is noted the day and time of the radio talk show/podcast, etc., the station on which it was aired and the name(s) of the host(s) AND 
2.  the MP3/MP4 recording must be emailed to the lecturer on or before the assignment due date. The transcription time must be indicated on the front page of the assignment; that is the time period in the recording where the transcription starts and finishes. For e.g. Transcription time for opposite sex caller  (1:00m – 1:00m:30s) / Transcription time for same sex caller  (2:00m:30s – 3:00m: 30s)

3. Keep a copy of the transcription and the recording for use in assignment 2.

            Mark Scheme for L25A TRANSCRIPTIONS

The following is the scheme which will be used to mark your transcriptions:

For accurate transcription of the exact words used in the segment of 5 minutes duration: 15 marks

For good use of the range of discourse transcription symbols provided: 10 marks                                                                                                                                     

Additional marks for transcription of moderate to long stretches of simultaneous speech: 5 marks
