University of Cumbria and Robert Kennedy College

General Instructions – Please read carefully

You are required to complete the assessment outlined below and submit your completed final document through the RKC Online Campus by the end of Unit 6. Your grade will be based 100% on this final document, to which you will also receive written feedback.

In addition, by the end of Unit 3 you must upload a paper that will consolidate your learning from the first three units and prepare you for the final assessment (see Interim Assignment, on the final page of this document). This paper will not be graded, but it is an important way of monitoring your progress and preparing you for the final assessment. Formative feedback on your draft will be given, and general feedback with respect to the topic(s) covered in the interim assignment will be posted on the Forum after Unit 3 has been completed.

Your paper must have a clear structure and include:

•             Cover page (an example is available to you in Induction/Unit 4)

•             Abstract (no more than 150 words in a single paragraph)

•             Table of contents (Table of tables/figures if necessary)

•             A declaration of authenticity – confirming that you are the sole author of the assessment and that you have acknowledged all of your

•             List of References cited in the text – at Master level you must use in-text citations to support your arguments and any work cited must appear in the References list at the end of the work. You are required to use the Harvard system for this.

You should read the criteria for assessment section below carefully to ensure that within your assessment you have addressed all of the issues for which marks are available.

Your word count, excluding cover page, abstract, table of contents and reference list no more than 3500 words in total. UoC have strict regulations regarding word limits – the penalties for exceeding them are set out in section 3 here https://www.cumbria.ac.uk/media/university-of-cumbria-website/content-assets/public/aqs/documents/academicregulations/Academic-Regulations---Appendix-3c.pdf

You must submit your work by 11.59 CET (Zurich) time on the last day of the module. UoC have strict regulations for submission of work, and the penalties for late submission are set out in section 2 of the link above.

Submissions should be machine readable and in MS-Word readable formats only please don’t use pdf or other formats. submit only one file, and include any Excel analysis as images, not embedded files

Please ask any questions about the interim assignment and final assessment in the Forum.

Final Assessment

For the final assessment you are to choose your own case study and describe and critique its Leadership for Sustainability. You should

•             Analyse the nature of leadership in the organisation and consider its relationship with established theory

•             Evaluate the extent to which global environmental pressures impact on the case study and analyse the ways in which the leadership is dealing with those pressures

•             Undertake a critical appraisal of the ways in which tools and theories relating to sustainability are or could be used in your case study

•             Critically evaluate the extent to which your case study are developing strategies for sustainability

For the case study, you can choose ANY organisation, public, private or not?for?profit.

Apply as many of the concepts of leadership and sustainability covered in this module as you can. You should recall in summary the concepts you use, but do not spend long describing them – we are looking for APPLICATION of the concepts to your case study, not descriptions of them.

Remember, we are not looking for an essay on leadership or sustainability, nor for a series of definitions, nor for a summary of the material covered in the module – we are looking to see how well you can use the concepts you have learned about to analyse the operation of your case study organisation

Another reminder to use the Assessment Criteria (below) as a guide to ensure you cover all the critical areas for which marks are available.
