Module Code: 747N1

Assessment 2: Individual essay (70%)

Using the concepts, tools and techniques of this module you have to describe and evaluate the logistics strategies and processes used by a company in the service or manufacturing sector.
The report should be no more than 2500 words in length and should normally contain the following elements:
1. Executive Summary
2. Introduction, which should include a discussion of the internal and external context of the company.
3. Analysis of the logistics issues within the company covering the following 6 points:
a. The logistics strategies of the company including, for instance, how the company wins and sustains competitive advantage through logistics;
b. The logistics performance priorities of the company;
c. The logistics structure and design of the company;
d. The logistics procedures and tools used by the company;
e. The strategy, tactics and operations associated with their logistics processes; and
f. A suggestion of key performance measures on related logistics strategies, processes, and capabilities.
GUIDANCE NOTES
The report needs to reflect the following learning outcomes within the context of the selected organisation:
Learning outcomes: By the end of the module, a successful student should be able to:

Analyse, synthesise and discuss current theories of managing and regulating supply and logistics networks

Critically analyse and evaluate contemporary case studies of logistics operations and strategies

Critically discuss and evaluate current and future logistics issues, in the context of globalisation of economy
4
Demonstrate an understanding of the operational aspects of participating in logistics processes
The report will be assessed on the basis of:
• Depth and relevance of research
• Synthesis and evaluation of data
• Application, analysis and understanding of appropriate concepts
• A clear, professional and well-presented report
