PHI2004 – Assignment #1 Critical Evaluation of a Research Study For the purpose of this assignment, you will work independently to produce a written reflection of a published research study. Identification, discussion and assessment of the research methods implemented in the study as well as a critical evaluation including suggestions for change are required. Once you have selected your article, you are expected to reflect (in writing) upon the following: • Provide a summary of the article – this should be similar to an abstract (i.e., no more than 750 words). • Identify and discuss three flaws you believe are in the research study – flaws can be found in the methodology, analysis or interpretation of the findings. You must justify why you believe they are flaws. • Provide suggestions for how the researchers could resolve the flaws you have identified. Be sure to explain how your suggestions would improve the study by drawing on course material and supporting evidence. This assignment will include the following sections and will incorporate APA guidelines for referencing and formatting: 1. Title Page 2. Summary of Article (Introduction): this section will begin with a general introduction to the assignment (i.e., what is the assignment’s purpose?) and following this will provide a summary of the research article. 3. Body: this section will present reflections from the questions/points above. There should be one paragraph for each of the identified flaws and one paragraph for each of the recommended solutions to said flaws. 4.
