ENVSCI 104 Dinosaurs, a Natural History Spring 2021 Extra credit, optional Project Description Choosing your genus or species A list of acceptable species will be posted as a spreadsheet after class on Monday, March 22. Students can select from that list, first selector wins. Format The project is to describe a particular genus or species from the clade Dinosauria (but not a member of class Aves) using a small set of slides (or "miniposters"). For the purposes of this extra credit project, a slide or miniposter can be thought of as... You can consider the very best slides used in our course as examples. Each slide should include no more than 4 to 6 elements, which may be text or figures. The element count does not include the slide title or small blocks of text to give names, sources, reference, etc. The set should include 4 to 8 slides. You can prepare the slides using the software of your choice, for example Word or Powerpoint. You can submit your final project as an editable or pdf file. If you choose to submit an editable file, it must be Word, Powerpoint, Illustrator, or LaTeX/Beamer - or you must get instructor permission. Content Within the slide set, describe a particular genus or species of Dinosauria (but not in Aves). The slides should describe as many of the following as are known: • the phylogeny of the genus or species date, location, and age of the type fossils (holotypes) physical size and appearance of the animal behavior, including diet, breeding, display, metabolism important characters of the genus or species, esp. if expressed in descendants notable descendants, if any The set should include well-selected figures, and clearly credited citations for figures and for facts that are not commonly known, in MLA format. Points awarded An adequate effort will replace your lowest quiz score with a core of 80. A good effort will replace your lowest quiz score with a 90. A very good effort will replace your two lowest quiz scores with 90. An exemplary effort will replace your two lowest quiz scores with 95.
