If a major war broke out tomorrow, would Americans rally together the way they did in the 1940s? Throughout the years, the United States has gone through numerous amounts of battles. Whether it is a bloody war or a global pandemic that puts the world to a stop, the United States always finds a way to…. ??? However, are Americans as patriotic as they were in the past? Or have they lost their willing to fight as the years pass by while the United States becomes more divided? If a major war broke out tomorrow, the American’s would not rally together the way they did in the 1940s. As the nation grows, the divide between us does as well. Republicans to Democrats, liberals to conservatives, each day the United States is becoming less united. Unity is a key factor when fighting a war, and this is a characteristic America lacks heavily. As the United States just finished yet another presidential election, the country segregated into two parties, causing a split between the nation. This current division forces our country to not be a united nation. The recent election between Joe Biden and Donald Trump prevailed the true divide in our nation. The republicans and democrats truly caused the nation to be separated and less unified. When it comes to fighting a war, you want the nation to be linked, -unanimous even- but when the country is at a split, it seems to be impossible. Since America is at such a split, one side might agree to fight while the other refuses due to their political beliefs. In the 1940s, America had been at its most patriotic times- especially after World War II. Although World War II started in a way where the U.S. was unable to resist, the U.S. was fighting on the side of good which had a positive affect on Americans. ADD A FINISHING SENTENCE. In the 1940s, there is the underlying fact that Americans went into the war with personal and historical memories of past wars- what war was, what one might expect to come out of wars and so on- however, in today’s world, many adolescent Americans have not experienced any wars. Prior to World War II was the attack of Pearl Harbor, which brought Americans together causing patriotism to be higher in World War II. This generation would be going into the war solely based on what they have learned in their classroom and textbooks. In today’s world, Americans do not have the patriotic feeling as they did in the 1940s since they never went through a war to experience unity and loyalty to America. ADD FINISHING STATEMENTS. All in all, if a major war broke out tomorrow, I do not believe Americans would rally together as the way they did in the 1940s. Times have changed and the United States is not as unified as it has been in the past. There is a large divide between the nation and patriotism is not as nearly as high as it was in the 1940s. Although Americans are one nation all for all, there is limited coalition among us.
