Research and Practice Exploration Assignment Many early childhood programs today describe their approaches as research based. The intent of this assignment is to encourage you to review a research article that includes ideas and data relevant to practices in Early Childhood classrooms. 1. Find a research article: Using your skills as a student search for an access an article that addresses practices/approaches in Early Childhood programs. The area of practice you choose to focus on might be one for the topics we’ve looked at in this class (e.g. the classroom environment, schedules and routines, areas in the curriculum, etc.) or another topic of your choice that focuses on Early Childhood classroom based practices. 2. Post Description of the Article in the Research Article Assignment Submission site: Your description should include: • a comprehensive discussion of the purpose of the study. Be sure to include any definitions that are provided by the researchers • information about the population studied • indication of what intervention of measurements, if any, were used and • a summary of the findings • it should conclude with your opinion of the research and something you found interesting 3) Prepare and post a Presentation in the Research Article Discussion. You may use Power Point and include images. Address the following: • Provide a complete citation for the article you reviewed and briefly describe the findings • Describe how the study was or could be helpful to you as a Early Childhood teacher • Share any concern you have related to how the practice examined might be implemented in a classroom.
