In Discussion Forum 1, post your response to the following discussion question. Reply to at least two classmates’ responses by the date indicated in the Course Calendar.

Take the following self-assessment quizzes in the Northouse text, and note your scores. Consult the scoring interpretations in the book.

• Leadership Trait Questionnaire (LTQ), Chapter 2
• Leadership Behavior Questionnaire (LBQ), Chapter 4

Note that for the LTQ, the instructions say that you must give the questionnaire to five people you know as well as take the survey yourself. However, your answers alone are sufficient. For the LBQ, your answers alone are also sufficient.

Using the information gained from these two exercises, answer the following questions in your post. Frame your answer with the following headings: Introduction, Leadership Trait Questionnaire, Leadership Behavior Questionnaire, Trait and Behavioral Theories of Leadership. In discussion posts, use the introduction to tell us the purpose of your submission and provide any needed context, such as your current leadership roles or experience.

• Regarding the LTQ, what are your strengths and weaknesses, according to you? What are your strengths and weaknesses, according to others? What insights did you gain from this exercise?

• Regarding the LBQ, into which range (very high to very low) did your score fall on task-related behavior? People-related behavior? Did your scores show you are more task-related or people-related in your behavior? Do you agree or disagree with these results and why? Are there areas where you feel you should work to have higher scores in order to improve your leadership abilities?

• Citing the Northouse text and at least one of the other required readings, critique the utility of trait theories of leadership and behavioral theories of leadership in assessing what makes a good leader in today’s organizations. Use at least one concrete example of a trait theory and one concrete example of a behavioral theory in your answer. [MO 1.1, MO 1.3]
