Purpose: Facilitate students’ understanding of historical aspects of school health and the evolution of the role of the school nurse into the 21^st Century.

Instructions:

1. Connect the inception of school nursing with today’s school nursing practice.

Discuss relevance of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Model and the NASN Framework for 21^st Century School Nursing Practice.

2. Explain in detail the role of the school nurse within the context of the NASN’s Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice in population health.
3. Apply the 5 pillars of the NASN Framework for 21^st Century School Nursing Practice while discussing the Certified School Nurse’s role as a provider of health care in the school setting. Give examples of each role with references from current scholarly peer reviewed literature.
