MBA 6301 Business Ethics
Instructions:
Select a significant tragic event (either domestic or global) that has occurred during the last 50 years. The interactive PowerPoint in this unit provides some ideas of historical tragic events but understand that these are just ideas. After describing the event and the post-tragedy events, discuss the ethical aspects revolving around this incident. This may require some additional research to understand the ethical situations and the impact these had on affected people being able to move on with their lives.
1. Describe the actions of people and organizational leaders directly and indirectly involved with the tragedy. Specifically, address the ethical issues they faced.
2. What were some of the actions of local, state and federal personnel with respect to dealing with this tragedy?
3. Explain the strategies of organizations that attempted to assist with the clean-up after the tragic event. Describe several of the pressures that influenced their strategies. Distinguish between social responsibility, integrity and simple business ethics.
4. How has this event affected the ethical culture here in the United States? What other affect has it had on society as a whole?
Use: 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, FL. My first cousin's son was killed in this tragedy. 49 people lost their lives. They were human beings and did not deserve to be gunned down.
Your response should be a minimum of (2) two full double-spaced pages plus references should include, at minimum, one additional credible reference beyond the required reading. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations, and cited per 7th edition APA guidelines. If you have questions don’t hesitate to email and ask.
Below I attempted this tragedy initially then I changed my mind. Now I want this one. 3 of my classmates have already used the 9/11 tragedy. Do not use this verbatim. I used this for my discussion post. You are welcome to use a few lines but not all. And please use and or cite different sources also. Plus I need 2 full pages without subtitles. NOT 1 and ¾ pages.
Tragic events can distract people from their normal ethical stance. The reason behind that comes from the very fact that the level of emotions can lead to a reaction that is normally not conveyed by an ethical person. These emotions can be selfishness and even compassionate behavior or even taking major measures like attempting to harm someone physically or going above and beyond to cause harm to any person emotionally or physically. These kinds of behaviors generally materialize when people are attempting to protect themselves from remote feelings or a feeling of guilt brought on by a specific event. Legal authority is an oversight of a person that directly weakens in such instances (Ralph Ellis). For me, if I had to talk of such an event in my own life, it had to be the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando Florida, where my first cousin's son was killed in the tragedy along with 48 other people.
It was a devastating situation for me and my family to realize and to go through the following tragedy but to understand the culprit of the situation and the reason why he chose to take away the life of 49 people, all so that he can fulfill his propaganda and his internal rage which made me turn into someone which I never am. As someone who always thinks positively for others and myself, it was the very first time in my life where I genuinely wished for something bad to happen to someone with such an utter intensity that after realizing how I reacted in this situation, it even scared me (NPR.org). Yet I understand how one's emotions work during such instances and crises in life.
