During elementary school I had a positive experience. The quality of my teachers was very good. My favorite teacher was my first grade teacher Mrs. Bigheart. I had just moved to the area and she let me come into her classroom the weekend before I started. She showed me around her room to make sure I felt comfortable. This helped me adjust quickly. The quality of my teachers was excellent in both educational and social development.. They truly cared for the children at the school. They utilized the constructivist approach in which learning was centered around children. This was often seen in art classes and having different sections that children could go learn at within one classroom (P 406). Further they also used direct instruction at times with more structured learning (p406). This often occurred with math, reading, writing, or grammar. They would teach us how to do math problems such as addition. It was teacher driven (p 407). In all, my teachers approach since it was a combination taught me to both listen and self-initiate learning. This helped me get the best of both worlds.
