Writing

The literary research paper will be 1200-1500 words, with a minimum of TWO secondary sources, in addition to the
primary source text. The primary source text should be any one of the short stories you have read, discussed, or writter
about during this semester, synthesizing your ideas with the ideas found in your secondary sources. You should either
use a different short story than the one you wrote about for Paper # 1 OR a different approach to the short story. You
may also use A Doll's House, however, the topic should be expanded and/or addressed through a different critical lens
and/or question than the approach you used for Paper # 2.

If finding sources for a specific short story is challenging, you may substitute sources that address the author's body of
work. If you do this, the information you find should provide insight about the short story. Remember that analysis of
the short story is primary. Topic selection (narrowly-defined) and finding appropriate and relevant sources are the most
important steps in the research paper process. This requires time and dedicated effort BEFORE you begin writing. The
writing process itself will be much easier if you have adequate and appropriate sources for a narrowly-defined topic.
The final submission paper should be submitted in proper MLA format, with parenthetical citation (quotes with sources
in parentheses), and a Works Cited page.
