Research Question/Hypothesis/Thesis States A. The topic of my examination will be black women and their perceived femininity in contemporary society, as well as what sociocultural and historical factors have contributed to this. B. The questions I am going to ask about include the following: 1. What historical factors have contributed to how feminine black women are perceived to be today? 2. What sociocultural factors have contributed to how feminine black women are perceived to be today? 3. How do these factors continue to render an impact on how feminine black women are perceived in society today? What are the modern day implications/outcomes? C. Thesis: Historical events in American history including the Transatlantic slave trade and the Jim Crow Era coupled with contemporary sociocultural influences have together impacted how feminine black women are perceived in modern society. Reasons: Black women are perceived as less feminine than their racial counterparts and as a result experience greater violence, elicit less empathy from their peers, are not respected as victims of sexual abuse or violence, and are believed less when expressing feelings of pain. Evidence: Sara Baartman and the onset of black female hypersexualization, transatlantic slave trade during which black woman were experimented on without anesthesia (promulgating the myth that they have a higher pain tolerance than other women), Jim Crow Era during which black female activists were brutalized, contemporary sociocultural factors: Reagan administartion and the “Welfare Mother”, (victims of police brutality like Breonna Taylor and Sandra Bland) + (black female celebrities and how they are perceived in society like Megan thee Stallion and Meghan Markle) + (black maternal mortality rate) II. Research Question/Hypothesis/ i nesis Statement 2. The topic or subject of your examination 3. The question(s) you are going to ask about the subject 4. Your argument 5. This begins with your (working) hypothesis 6. Reasons for your hypothesis 7. Evidence that supports your reason. If your hypothesis can be supported by reasons AND credible evidence this then becomes your claim (i.e. thesis statement) 8. Literature Review/Annotated Bibliography In this section explicitly state how your sources support your argument and your overall paper. This includes an annotated bibliography of your sources. An annotated bibliography includes a brief summary of each source including the topic of the source, the author's main argument and how the source supports your research topic. III. Projected Outline This section should list your (tentative) paper outline. How do you plan to organize your paper to best make your argument? All papers have an introduction and conclusion. How you organize the sections in between is up to you and should be done in a way that best illustrates/proves the thesis statement/claim. Outlines should follow the format of this assignment (numbered, bullet points, etc.). Do not write your outline in essay format. 16 259 DOO Inbox Dashboard Calendar To Do Notifications Inbox
