GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file NP_PPT19_CS5-6a_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as NP_PPT19_CS5-6a_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:

    • Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Matrix.docx
    • Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Pitch.docx
    • Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Problem.xlsx
    • Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Work.jpg
  • With the file NP_PPT19_CS5-6a_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

  1. As a member of a team developing a new medical diagnostic device at Omega Diagnostic, you are working with the project leader, Miguel Sandoval, on a presentation featuring team-building activities. Miguel plans to use the activities during an upcoming training workshop. You need to complete the presentation by integrating content from other programs, customizing the Slide Master, and setting up a custom show.
    On the title slide ("Building Effective Teams"), read the comment from Miguel Sandoval, and then respond as follows:
    1. Recolor the picture on the left using Blue-Gray, Accent color 5 Light to comply with Miguel's request.
    2. Reply to Miguel's comment with the following text:
      I recolored the picture.
  2. On the title slide, insert a comment with the following text:
    Should we change the subtitle to mention team building?
  3. On the title slide, customize the fonts used in the presentation by selecting Tahoma as the Body font to display a more distinctive combination of fonts.
  4. On Slide 2 ("Two Truths and a Lie"), send the third lavender circle to the back to reveal the number 3 in a blue circle.
  5. Remaining on Slide 2, switch to Slide Master View, and then change the background style for the Title Only layout to Style 1 to use a solid white background.
  6. Still in Slide Master View, create a custom slide layout as follows:
    1. Duplicate the Two Content Layout.
    2. Use Three Content as the name of the new layout.
    3. Resize the content placeholder on the left to a height of 4.6" and a width of 5.4".
    4. Resize the content placeholder on the right to a height of 2.2" and a width of 5.4".
    5. Insert a new content placeholder below the content placeholder you just resized.
    6. Resize the new content placeholder to a height of 2.2" and a width of 5.4".
    7. Align the bottom of the new content placeholder with the bottom of the content placeholder on the left.
    8. Align the right side of the new content placeholder with the right side of the content placeholder above it.
    9. Close Slide Master View.
  7. On Slide 3 ("Customer Journey Mapping"), modify the animations applied to the text boxes as follows to let viewers focus on one text box at a time:
    1. Select the four numbered text boxes.
    2. Change the text to dim to gray (the 8th color in the palette) after the animation.
  8. On Slide 4 ("Problem-Solving Matrix"), embed a Word table as follows:
    1. Open the Word document Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Matrix.docx.
    2. Copy the table in the Word document, and then paste it on Slide 4 using the destination styles.
    3. Close the Word document.
  9. Still on Slide 4, format the table as follows to make it easy to read:
    1. Change the font size to 18 point for the entire table.
    2. Resize the table to a height of 4.5" and a width of 11".
    3. Align the table in the center of the slide.
  10. Remaining on Slide 4, format the header row as follows to clarify that the "Actions" text applies only to the three columns on the right:
    1. Merge the second, third, and fourth cells in row 1.
    2. Align the contents of the merged cell to the center and middle of the cell.
  11. On Slide 5 ("30-Minute Problem Solving"), read and then delete the comment from Miguel Sandoval.
  12. Still on Slide 5, insert a chart from an Excel workbook as follows to illustrate the workshop activity:
    1. Open the Excel workbook Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Problem.xlsx.
    2. Copy the "Tasks to Complete in 30 Minutes" chart and embed it on Slide 5 using the destination theme.
    3. If necessary, move and resize the chart so that it fits within the gray outline on the slide.
    4. Close the Excel workbook.
  13. Remaining on Slide 5, change the chart type to a Line with Markers chart to more accurately reflect the data.
  14. On Slide 6 ("ABC Brainstorming"), format the text box on the left in three columns so that all of its text appears on the slide.
  15. On Slide 7 ("A Day in the Life"), apply the Three Content layout you created earlier.
  16. Remaining on Slide 7, customize the bullets in the left content placeholder as follows to emphasize the bulleted list:
    1. Change the bullet symbol to a checkmark in the Wingdings font (Character code 252).
    2. Change the size of the bullet symbol to 120%.
    3. Change the color of the bullet symbol to Blue-Gray, Accent 3.
  17. Remaining on Slide 7, insert pictures in the content placeholders on the right as follows to complete the slide:
    1. Insert the picture file Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Work.jpg in the top content placeholder on the right.
    2. Insert the picture file Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Life.jpg in the bottom content placeholder on the right.
  18. On Slide 8 ("Sales Pitch"), insert the Word document Support_PPT19_CS5-6a_Pitch.docx as an object from file.
  19. Create a Custom Slide Show named Managers that includes Slides 1–4 so that Miguel can show only the first four slides to managers.
  20. Insert sections as follows to organize the content of the presentation:
    1. Insert a new section named Managers between Slides 1 and 2.
    2. Insert another new section named All Employees between Slides 4 and 5.
    3. Insert a third new section named Credits between Slides 8 and 9.
  21. On Slide 9 ("Workshop on creative thinking and collaborating"), reset the slide to its default format.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
