Written Assignment 2 To address an organizational problem, you must be able to identify the strategic, tactical, and operational decisions to be made

Writing

Written Assignment 2

To address an organizational problem, you must be able to identify the strategic, tactical, and operational decisions to be made. This involves creating teams that will make decisions and implement plans. Team leaders and members must be aware of the biases, cognitive dissonance, and psychological traps that might create barriers to success. Although self-awareness is critical for success, many practitioners fail to develop this skill, resulting in poor decisions. After evaluating these barriers to success, leaders and teams can develop a plan to overcome them.

Instructions

Write a 10- to 14-page paper (2500 to 3850 words) in APA format that focuses on defining organizational context, identifying the boundaries of the problem, and applying a decision-making model/theory/concept. Do not exceed 14 pages (not including the title page or references).

Use the headings below when completing this written assignment. You must use at least ten references in this paper; nine of these references need to be sources not provided in the course. Six of these sources must be scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles; three references can be white papers published by professional organizations (e.g., Society for Human Resources Management). No blogs, wikis, or news websites will be accepted.

Introduction [maximum 1 page]

Organizational Problem [maximum 3 pages]

  • Identify a problem and explain the organizational context, decision-making model, and analysis of appropriate data. The data analysis is used to support the evidence-based decisions. You may use the problem from Written Assignment 1 or identify a new problem. Note: Do not copy/paste content from the first paper. You must condense and summarize content for this paper. You may also add new information.

Organizational Solution [maximum 1 page]

  • Recommend a solution, taking into account the organizational context and other relevant factors. (This expands beyond the skills developed in Written Assignment 1.)

Subheading: Team [maximum 1 page]

  • Assemble a hypothetical team that will make decisions and implement plans. Describe each member (role information and title) and summarize why these individuals have been chosen. Explain how diversity is achieved through this mix of individuals.
  • Create a communication plan that would allow for a discussion to uncover biases, psychological traps, and cognitive dissonance. (The communication plan would include information on timelines for communicating types of information/decisions, mode of communication, audience for communication, etc.).

Subheading: Solution [maximum 1 page]

  • Summarize a minimum of three solutions (one solution to each of the following decisions related to the solution): one strategic decision, one tactical decision, and one operational decision. Explain how these decisions are relevant and connected.

Dark Side of Decision Making

Subheading: Biases [maximum 2 pages]

  • Identify two or three biases that could hinder the team’s success. Specify why these biases could be present and whether they would be conscious or unconscious.
  • Explain how you, as a leader, would address these biases.

Subheading: Psychological Traps [maximum 2 pages]

  • Identify two or three psychological traps that could threaten the team’s work. Specify why these traps could be present.
  • Explain how you, as a leader, would help your team avoid these psychological traps.
