Module Title:       Machines and Mechanisms

Module Code:      ENGD3112

Assignment Title:

Gear system report

Introduction

In this coursework, you will carry out two experimental in gear system .

You will need to attend, analyse and discuss the experimental results based on your understanding of the gear system .Undertaking this assignment will enable you to understand, establish and apply the principle of the two main areas within machine and mechanisms in solving engineering problems.

The Brief

You are asked to attend the accelerated gear experiment (week 5) to enable to gather the experimental procedure and result. However, failed to that all data (including video) will be uploaded into the folder of workshop 1 and workshop 2.

Guideline for the report structure

The structure may include:

  • Cover page including name - Abstracts.
  • Contents including figure list and table list.
  • Introduction.
  • Theory and literature review.
  • Experiment methodology.
  • Experimental result.
  • Theory calculation. - Critical analysis (IMPORTANT)- Discussion.
  • Conclusions.
  • Recommendations.
  • Appendices.

The BOLD wording is where the word count will be applied.

ONE report will be created based on two experimental therefore you might use the heading and subheading for each experimental.

Guideline for the heading and subheading:

  1. Accelerate of a Gear system
    1. Introduction
    2. Theory and literature review
      1. Type of gear
      2. etc
    3. Experimental procedure (brief)
    4. Experimental result
    5. Hand calculation
      1. Angular acceleration
      2. etc
    6. Critical analysis
    7. Discussion
    8. Conclusion
    9. Recommendation (if any)

Detail requirement:

Third person must be used in the report. Since this is a standard and technical report therefore the word I, we, they and another first person IS NOT allowed.

Equation edition or similar tools for typing formulas MUST be used.

Scan of the formula and lab sheets are NOT allowed.

Correct citation of reference and proper numbering of equations and figures.

Reference MUST BE provided and follow Harvard style referencing system (including referencing).

DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINE FOR THIS E-SUBMISSION.

Understanding and Managing Coursework Assessment Checklist

This brief checklist is designed to help you avoid some of the common mistakes which can lose you marks on your coursework. YOU NEED TO THEN SUBMIT THE COMPLETED CHECK LIST WITH YOUR COURSEWORK.

Have you utilised the assessment brief to ensure you have correctly addressed the coursework grading criteria?

Have you check your content is correct and up-to-date, preferably through use of at least one peer-reviewed reference (not Wikipedia!)?

Have you cited the reference(s) you have used in the correct format?

Have you used a colour scheme which is easy to read?

Have you got a good balance between the amount of text and the number of pictures/figures/tables/diagrams?

Have you labeled all figures/tables and diagrams?

Have you included an introduction and conclusion?

Have you used a Table of Contents and glossary of terms?

Have you used an appropriate front sheet?

Have you proof read your work and checked your spellings and punctuation?
