Instructions: Sparked by events in Charlottesville in 2017, debates regarding the removal of Confederate monuments have intensified. For this assignment, you are to select a Confederate monument in Georgia. Conduct research on the monument to include where it is located, when it was erected, why it was created, who/what it commemorates (and a description of their role in history), and how the monument portrays the event/person. Write a 2-3 page essay that provides an image of the monument, a historical overview (who/what/when/where/why/how) and a critical analysis of whether or not it should: a) remain intact unchanged b) be removed, or c) remain intact but revise/reform the monument to include a counter perspective. Defend your position using evidence from multiple valid sources. Your essay can be written in APA style OR Chicago manuel of style (your choice) with a corresponding reference page. Be sure to include in-text citations in the selected format. Please note that no points will be awarded for essays that omit references/citations and/or are plagiarized.

Submission Guidelines: Submit your essay as a .doc/x or .pdf/x file to D2L assignments prior to the due date.

Format: 2-3 pages (excluding title and references), double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, with 1 inch margins.
