If I decide to have children, my desire would be to be married and for the pregnancy to be a planned pregnancy. The decision of the primary caregiver would be a joint decision between my wife and myself and what would be the best case scenario. It would need to be partly a financial decision of who has the better paying job that has the most possiblities for advancement and partly which one of us is the best caregiver for the child. I am not opposed to being the primary caregiver, if my wife had the better job to financially support our household. If we decide to both return to work after the baby is born and use a childcare option for the baby, I absolutely believe that the household responsibility should be split equally between us. If one of us is staying home with the baby, I think that person will probably do the majority of the housework, but both will help out equally when at home together. I do think this country would benefit from looking at other prosperous countries and how they handle maternity and paternity leave. I do feel their should be paid leave for both mothers and fathers, as I feel that it is extremely important for a child to be nurtured and cared for by their parents at the beginning stages of life. It is a benefit to our country if we invest in our future and have healthy, well educated and physically and mentally strong children that can grow to become strong contributors to this country.
