Below you will find choices. Chose ONE of the following to write your essay on after you have read Chapter Two:

Option #1:

Identify a social problem or issues in the United States or world that you are interested in studying. Research the origin of the problem or issue, its influence in our society, its current status, its effects on society, and a possible solution to the problem or the issue. This is a reputable research organization if you would like to use it: https://www.pewresearch.org/topics/  Determine what theoretical perspective you believe would best lend itself to the examination and/or solution to that problem or issue and thoroughly explain why you believe that theoretical perspective fits the social problem or issue. 

OR

Option #2:

Explain the similarities and differences between the functionalist and conflict perspectives. Discuss some of their major points of emphasis. Select an issue of concern on campus or in your community, and analyze it in terms of each of these perspectives.
