· How were politics apparent in popular culture during the most recent presidential election?  Give specific examples.

· Politics have a huge impact on popular culture rather we realized it or not.  Even more now since social media is present. It attracts voters to get out and vote.  It can persuade someone to vote a party that they normally do not vote for or believe in their beliefs. With the past election with Biden and Trump, Biden chose to use famous celebrities as a advertisement for his election that helped pull in voters.  Trump did tours as well but was more involved in social media tactics to rake in votes and bring voters out.  "As such, transitions involve a delicate dance in the best of circumstances. But transferring power amidst ongoing and intersecting national crises magnifies the challenge of ensuring effective governance and promoting the national interest—even more so when the change involves a transfer of power from one party to another. (Burns, M. 2019)"

· What effect can popular culture have on peoples’ political opinions?

· It can have a huge effect on people's opinions especially the younger generations of people.  A lot of people can be coerced into beliefs of another party because it sounds convincing or good at the time. Also if someone's favorite celebrity, musician, who ever is for that party, it makes their vote easier.

· Is pop culture’s effect on the communication of political ideas beneficial or harmful to society?  Support your argument.

· In my personal belief, it can be both.  I believe in different parts of both parties and trying to have someone force something "down my throat" is not right.  Can your beliefs change? Absolutely.  But to me most people in government are liars and most of what they promise they will change doesn't happen.  Also with certain ideas that sound great to change takes a while to change and sometimes can take longer than the presidency lasts.  Trumps big thing was to get America back working and now people are wanting to keep getting a check for not going back to work despite being able (this doesn't include people who are physically and mentally not able to work of course).

Politics and popular culture have blurred the lines on journalism and political views. Presidential candidates using Twitter and Facebook to voice their political platform as well as using celebrities to spread their viewpoints. One thing that most people will say that any publicity is better than no publicity even if it is negative. Popularity seemed to control the most recent election, whether people voted left or right one thing that was lacking was that people backed their presidential candidate by popularity or there persona, very few people seemed to be worried about the agenda and platforms of reform that the candidate was pushing. Trump used populism to his advantage to connect with people and their need to believe the government is corrupt. Biden had support of several left sided celebrities that seemed to encourage voters to his side. The bottom line is that traditional journalism is not how any politician wishes to be viewed and look to find ways to be seen as a person instead of their political views (Unit 3 Popular Culture, Politics, and New Media, 2020).

Popular culture has had a huge effect on political views, celebrities now voicing their choices on who is right for this country and somehow their opinion is rated as higher than a person that has a political background. For instance, did Arnold Schwarzenegger really become governor of California because of his credentials and political knowledge or did he win the popular vote because of his Hollywood fame?

Popular culture can be used to sway views if delivered in the correct way which is usually the purpose behind music, TV, or movies. The unit discussion and videos made several points on how pop culture is used to open conversations about issues in the world today. Southpark is known for its raunchy and vulgar viewpoints, but the purpose is to talk about current events and often overdramatizes the situation in order to show the ridiculous ways people tens to react. If used correctly pop culture could be beneficial to political ideas, but it is usually portrayed in harmful ways. As stated before celebrities have a huge following and are influential to many people and can push their political agenda quite easily. Hitler is an example of how popular culture can be used in harmful ways, he found a way to connect to the people by blaming the government and certain races on their current situations of poverty and heavily relied on propaganda to push his views to the people. Hitler knew he had to gain control of Germany through democracy and be voted in, because if he attempted to overthrow the government by force he would not succeed. He used mainstream media, films, and radio as his campaigning tools and eventually succeeded in being voted into total authoritarian power (Propaganda and the Nazi Rise to Power, n.d.).
