Your project will focus on ONE of the seventeen non-Indo-European language families (Sino-Tibetan, Afro-Asiatic, Austroasiatic, Dravidian, Niger-Congo, Trans-New Guinea, Uto-Aztecan, Eskimo-Aleut, Tai-Kadai, Australian, Austronesian, Japonic, Koreanic, Uralic, Turkic, Nilo-Saharan, or Mayan)

Your project will focus on ONE of the seventeen non-Indo-European language families (Sino-Tibetan, Afro-Asiatic, Austroasiatic, Dravidian, Niger-Congo, Trans-New Guinea, Uto-Aztecan, Eskimo-Aleut, Tai-Kadai, Australian, Austronesian, Japonic, Koreanic, Uralic, Turkic, Nilo-Saharan, or Mayan). You may focus broadly on that family OR you may choose two or three particular languages within that family. Explore the language/language family from an interdisciplinary perspective, including history, culture, politics, linguistics, et al.

Regardless of which project you choose, this is a scholarly study written in an academic manner, approximately 1,000 to 1,200 words (3-4 pages typed @ roughly 300 words per page, same format as for research paper), submitted as a Word document or PDF (.doc, .docx, .pdf). In either case, imagine that you are presenting this project to a professional meeting of a genealogical or linguistic society. A library research guide will be made available for help in finding scholarly articles. See grid above for late policy. A missing project will be assigned a grade of “0.”
