English Aug 08, 2020

So far we've spent time discussing rhetorical appeals/strategies (pathos, ethos, logos, kairos), and rhetorical situation (audience, composer, subject, context). Spend about 10 minutes and reflect on what these topics mean to this course. Why are these things we discuss in ENGL-121? How do you see them being used in the essay you are currently writing? What are contexts outside of this class where you could see these topics being useful to you (this can be other classes, work situations, or other real world uses)?

Expert Solution

Rhetorical appeals , strategies and rhetorical situation mean in this class to me they are the strategies used in writing when trying to convince the professor who is the audience that I have a full understanding of the writing process. Myself the composer that I understand the  context and subjects taught in  the this class.  These things are taught in this class to prepare you for other writings you may have to do in the future. The strategies are being used in Essay #1 to persuade the professor that my topic is for certain an issue, it holds a strong case, the information I`m providing is in fact credible and verifiable. These context definitely can be used at work and in real life situations  like for instance if you are having an issue at work. when sending an email to your boss about a particular situation Logos would be an excellent strategy to use due to the avoidance of emotions and your trying to tell someone something based on logic and not emotion.
