Connecting Author's Tone and Point of View 1

English

Connecting Author's Tone and Point of View 1. My memory is slipping away so quickly and it's really aggravating. This year, for instance, I forgot not only one of my grandchildren's birthdays but also my own. That was a big blunder because the only way my husband remembers my birthday is if I remember to call his secretary and remind her to remind him. In addition, last week, believe it or not, I drove the car to work and then took the bus home. Sometimes, however, a bad memory can be useful. For example, while forgetting my birthday may be a problem, forgetting my age is not. What is the tone? 1. Worried and fearful 2. Objective and factual 3. Intense and complex 4. I contend that walking is a more practical form of exercise than running. Walking a mile takes longer than running a mile, but it is nearly as good for the heart. Walking is also a "low-impact" exercise that does not subject bones and joints to the damage that can result from "high-impact" exercises such as running or playing basketball. In addition, walking is a way to get to know your neighborhood; you can pause to say hello to an acquaintance without breaking your rhythm or concentration. Furthermore, walking isn't as sweaty as other exercises. You can walk during your lunch break and not have to change your clothes or take a shower afterwards. Want a good, pleasant exercise? Take a walk! What is the tone? 1. Understanding and compassionate 2. Arrogant and outspoken 3. Straightforward and enthusiastic 4. Joyous but hesitant How do you know? High schools should encourage young men to enroll in home economics classes. It's about time that boys learn to take care of themselves. More and more women have entered the work force, yet they are still expected to slave at home taking care of the male slobs in their lives. But women are beginning to rebel, so it's no longer realistic for boys to expect a woman to be both a wife and a mom. Furthermore, young men should be capable of living alone if they do not happen to marry. Being able to cook a meal, sew on a button and do the laundry will make it possible for them to live independent lives instead of having to bring their clothes home to Mommy. What is the tone? 1. Amused and playful 2. Unsure but straightforward 3. Solemn and formal 4. Outspoken and mocking How do you know?
