A Chance in the World is set in New Bedford, Massachusetts, which at one point in history was an epicenter for American economics. During the 1700s and 1800s, New Bedford was a world-renowned port for whaling ships and the whaling industry of refining whale oil to produce lamp oil, soap, candles and cosmetics.
