III.     For your self-evaluation papers, the format is as follows:

  1. 12pt. font, Times New Roman, Double spaced
  2. Title and save your document: Lastname.SEComm.docx

IV.

HOW TO FORMAT YOUR PAPER

a.   Your paper should be at least 2 pages in length and include the following:

    1. A clear introduction stating (1) what the speech was about, (2) the purpose and requirements of the speech, (3) what was your chosen topic and why did you select this topic, and (4) a thesis statement explaining what the paper is going to be about.
      1. A review of each speech criteria sheet will give you an idea of how to write this section.
    2. 4 paragraphs for the body
      1. Paragraph 1: In terms of content, did you or did you not meet all the requirements of this speech? Was all the information present, or did you miss something? Could you have elaborated more on somethings or shortened others? Did you have a good introduction? A good body? A clear conclusion?
      2. Paragraph 2: In terms of delivery (verbal and non-verbal), what are some things that you did well on.
      3. Paragraph 3: In terms of delivery (verbal and non-verbal), what are some things that you can improve on for next speech.
      4. Paragraph 4: Did you or did you not improve with your delivery from your Introduction speech to now? Compare these two speeches and explain any improvements that were made or not.
    3. A good conclusion that summarizes your main points and states 1-3 things you can work on to improve for your next speech.

V.   IN YOUR DISCUSSION, BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE WITH YOUR POINTS. IF

YOU SAY YOU MADE GOOD EYE CONTACT/DID NOT MAKE GOOD EYE CONTACT, THEN CITE WHERE IN YOUR SPEECH YOU DID/DID NOT DO THIS.

For example: “In my introduction speech, I noticed I did not have good eye contact with my audience from 1:20-1:45, and 3:30-4-minute mark as I was reading off my notecards during that time”

To help you along with writing your paper, I have put together a list of questions that you should be answering in your body.

  1. Were you using extemporaneous delivery?
  2. How was your use of voice (rate, intonation, volume, pitch)? Were you talking too fast/slow? Too loud/soft? Were you monotone/enthusiastic?
  3. Did you stumble upon your words or have an awkward pauses in your speech?
  4. Did you have any hand gestures? Were they incorporated smoothly or where they distracting?
  5. Did you move around or not? (g., swaying side to side or back and forth)
  6. How was your eye contact with your “audience?”
  7. Did you have a good first impression? Did you start your speech with a good attention getter?
  8. Did you preview your main points before going into the body of your speech?
  9. Did you have a review of your main points?
  10. Did you end with a good memorable statement?
  11. Compared to your introduction speech, did you improve with regards to your delivery? How so? Or why not? Explain and elaborate.
