STRENGTH AND STIFFNESS EVALUATION OF 3D FRAME
Evaluate the strength and stiffness of given 3D frame using classical and Finite Element (FE) methods (program SolidWorks Simulation):
1. Calculate internal loads M, T, Q and N acting on the elements and draw their diagrams;
2. Calculate the maximum normal and shear stresses at the point of the dangerous cross-section;
3. For the most loaded point of dangerous cross-section write stress tensor by evaluating the stresses caused by internal moments and axial force;
4. For the same point as in item 3 calculate the principal stresses by evaluating the stresses caused by internal moments and axial force (for classical approach apply Mohr circles);
5. For the same point as in item 3 calculate factors of safety by applying three different strength criteria (Maximum Normal Stress / Rankin; Maximum Tangential Stress / Tresca / Stress Intensity and von Mises);
6. Calculate the linear horizontal displacement of the common point between elements b and c;
7. Compare and comment on the results obtained using the classical and finite element method
