Extra Credit Speech

Directions: Please follow the directions below on how to submit this extra credit assignment.

  1. For your 7th and final homework assignment, I had you all write a short story that you share with your friends/family. Within the assignment, you had to include three out of the five stylistic devices (i.e., simile/metaphor, alliteration, repetition, parallelism, and antithesis).
    1. The purpose of the assignment was to help you incorporate different stylistic devices in order to elevate your writing and speaking abilities.
    2. However, for the homework you only had to do the written part.
  2. Therefore, what better way to earn extra credit than to actually record yourself presenting this story that you elevated using these stylistic devices in order to work on your pubic speaking skills more?
  3. For this extra credit assignment, you are going to take your story and record yourself telling this story; much like giving a speech.
  4. You are going to record yourself and submit your extra credit speech using the directions down below.

VIDEO FILE SUBMISSION:

IMPORTANT NOTE: This course is designed to give you practice in how to deliver presentations before a live audience. It is not intended for you to learn how to make YouTube videos or Vlogs (video logs). Therefore, for these speeches, you must be STANDING, and you must present your speech as if you were presenting before a LIVE AUDIENCE. This means no sitting and no reading your notes from your computer screen or from notes lying on the table. We must be able to see a head to waist view of you. It is perfectly okay to use 4” x 6” notecards as handheld speaker notes.

Each speech must be delivered extemporaneously, meaning that the speech is delivered conversationally with the use of 4” x 6” notecards as handheld speaker notes. Reading your speech from your computer screen is not allowed. If it is determined that you are not using extemporaneous delivery, you will be asked to redo the entire presentation, and the late penalty will apply.

Speech videos must be uploaded in unedited or “raw” form. Video editing to correct for errors or latencies in speech is prohibited. Videos that have been edited before submission will receive a “0” grade.

To submit a video, please follow the instructions highlighted below:
