GETTING STARTEDMULTIPLE-TABLE FORMS

  • Open the file SC_AC19_EOM5-1_FirstLastName_1.accdb, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as SC_AC19_EOM5-1_FirstLastName_2.accdb by changing the “1” to a “2”.
  • If you do not see the .accdb file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • Open the _GradingInfoTable table and ensure that your first and last name is displayed as the first record in the table. If the table does not contain your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

  1. Competitive Swim Clubs Inc. is a national chain of swim clubs targeted to youth and adults who are or who want to be competitive swimmers. You are the regional manager for clubs located in the Southeastern United States.

Fees and services change to respond to customers' needs. Add a new field named ClubNotes to the end of the Clubs table. Use Attachment as the data type for the field and use Fees and Services as the Caption property for the field. Save and close the table.

  1. You and your staff receive many inquiries about swim fees and need ready access to fee data when you respond. Open the SwimFees Data Entry Form in Design View. Add the DiscountedFee field to the form above the AnnualFee field. The top-left edge of the DiscountedFee control is at the 5" mark on the horizontal ruler and the 1" mark on the vertical ruler. Confirm that your form matches Figure 1. Save and close the form.

  1. Front desk personnel need to be able quickly access data on members and swimmers. Open the Member-Swimmer Form in Design View. Resize the width of the subform so that the right edge is at the 6" mark on the horizontal ruler. Save the form. Then, modify the title for the form by changing the font color of the title to Dark Red (1st column, 7th row of Standard Colors palette) and the font size of the text to 24 point. Finally, apply the Etched special effect to the title. Confirm that your form matches Figure 2. Save and close the form.

  1. Competitive Swim Clubs has acquired some new clubs in your region. Use Design View to create a new form for the Clubs table that includes all fields except the ClubNotes field from the table. The left edges of the six controls are at the 3" mark on the horizontal ruler. The controls are separated vertically by approximately 0.1". Save the form using Club Data Entry Form as the name of the form. Then, add a title that is the same as the form name to the form. Confirm that your form matches Figure 3. Save and close the form.

  1. You created a first draft of the Coach-Club Form, but it needs to be more user-friendly. Open the Coach-Club Form in Design View and change the tab order so that users tab to the FirstName field immediately after the CoachID field. Confirm that your form matches Figure 4. Save and close the form.

  1. An employee in the accounting department has asked for some changes to the Swimmers Total Fee Form to make it easier to understand. Open the Swimmers TotalFee Form in Design View and delete the LevelID label and control. Change the label for the LevelDescription control using Ability Level as the new name for the label control. Then, ensure that users do not tab to the TotalFees control. Confirm that your form matches Figure 5. Save and close the form.

Compact and repair the database. Close Access and the database and submit your work to your instructor.
