Kelly has talked and talked about getting a divorce from her husband who abuses her occasionally and has always been remote and uninvolved in their marriage. You feel strongly that she should leave because you see the abuse escalating.

  1. What are some interviewing techniques you might use to help Kelly decide what she should do from here?

Answer:  I would try to allow her to give me permission for my advice and refrain from accusing her or judging her for being with him. Using I-messages to express empathy towards her situation and feelings from being in an abusive situation.

 (b) How responsible is Kelly for making a change and how responsible is the case manager?

Answer:   She is equally responsible as is the case manager; the case manager to express the option of center for abused women or abused spouses. She should also give her the option to order a protection order or restating order from her husband until she get the divorce. Therapy or counseling so that she can learn to move forward to grow. If she is limited on resources related to living or income (Maybe the husband was the provider) I would suggest resources in earing her own income and housing programs available to those who were in her situation. If she is not willing to accept the help I as the case worker can not force her Kelly would have to do the foot work to move forward a never looking back into their marriage.
